You know the book and have likely read it. I have four or five times, but I was scrolling through Amazon’s movies and saw Virgin Atlantic’s 1984. I’ll cut to the chase: it’s a great film. From my vantage, anyway. My wife – a great fan of the Gilmore Girls – wouldn’t go for it. Too dark and weird. Too Twin Peaksy. I loved the cinematography. Per Wiki, it was produced with something called bleach bypass to wash out the colors. The entire movie is dark and mysterious, and presented as always waiting for something. It’s weird, but I had the sense of watching it through a kaleidoscope. Dark in the middle with silvery stars encircling the picture. So much for TBI.
I liked it, but not everyone did. It was apparently panned by at least one reviewer as ‘hard to watch.’ I don’t know if he didn’t like the movie or if the subject was difficult.
The subject, of course, is always prescient wherever humans exist. Some want power, and some are happy to give it. Some aren’t. Add in today’s concern about AI, and there’s a lot to think about here. What does it mean to be human?
