Da Rules!

I taught high school chemistry for one inglorious year after letting go of the corporate time clock. I was surprised by how many rules teachers posted in their classrooms. One gal – very credentialed and apparently very good – had twenty thumbtacked to her wall. Twenty! It was crazy . These are young adults after all, wanting to learn and grow into mature relationships and meaningful jobs for the good of society, and, well, yeah, I was more than a little dopey and naive.

But even with this realization, I stuck with one rule. And I’m doing the same thing here. Later, more experienced, I added a couple more:

Be respectful.

That was it. It encompassed and encompasses just about all I cared about. Here, on this site, is something just as easy, but just like in the classroom, people find ways to trip over it. I simply ask that you act like a grownup. To treat others how you would like to be treated. That’s it. That’s the rule.

Know, too, that I make this a place for people to enjoy. I don’t care if you are a Bible-thumping Christian or a red-eyed atheist; if you are an ass about it, taking pride in putting people in their rightful place…I will hit the ban button. Without any ado.

So let’s be grownups. Love G and love people.
