Crumb – Cigarette, anyone?
I laugh when I think if these things. I think of my brain like a map of the whole world and universe, and there’s a steel ball in there, banging around like inside a pinball machine, and, when it stops banging, that’s the thought that comes up.
So, I’m thinking and writing and I remember how Dad laughed one day, asking me if I wanted a cigar.
“What in the world is so bleedin’ funny?”
“You know Denn, when I was younger, like in my twenties, it was unheard of for you to pull a cigarette from a pack and smoke it without first asking everyone in the room if they wanted one. Can you imagine the looks I would get if I tried that today?”
And so it is. The world changes.
